ABOUT MASM

The Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine was founded in 1973

It was a brainchild of Tan Sri Majid Ismail, Tan Sri Jegathesan, Prof Dr. Chan Onn Leng and Dr. T. Thinakaran who sought to establish a local organization that encapsulates professionals from all the diverse fields of sports medicine and sciences. It comprises of orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, physiotherapists, chiropractors, dieticians, other health allied professionals, sports scientists, sports trainers, academicians & etc.

MASM aims to provide support and education to athletes and individuals aspiring to undertake regular physical activity at all levels.

At a community level, MASM encourages recreational and physical activity as well as educating its members about healthy lifestyle choices with the aim of reducing the incidence of non- communicable diseases.

MASM plays an active role in educating professionals and members of the general public about safe participation in sports, recreation and physical activity to create a healthy population.

About Us

History

On the evening of 5th of April, 2015, I interviewed Tan Sri Dato' Dr Jegathesan Manikavasagam, about Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine. Tan Sri Dato' Dr M Jegathesan, is widely known as The Flying Doctor for being the fastest man in Asia for winning three gold medals at the Bangkok Asian Games in 1966 and is also the Founding Secretary of the association. OUR AIM AND OBJECTIVES

PROMOTE

the study, application and development of Sports and Exercise Medicine in the country.

ACT AS

a national consultative body to the Government, if called upon, on all matters concerning Sports and Exercise Medicine.

PROMOTE

physical activity and exercise to the public as an effort to support the national & global action in combating physical inactivity.

ORGANISE

events such as conference, scientific meeting, workshop and courses in order to keep abreast of the new development in Sports and Exercise Medicine.

PROMOTE

the publication and sharing of education and scientific materials regarding Sports and Exercise Medicine.

in setting up state subcommittees throughout Malaysia to promote and expand the service of Sports & Exercise Medicine.

the recoganized national affiliate to the FIMS (International Federation of Sports Medicine), AFSM (Asian Federation of Sports Medicine), and other international organizations of similar interest.
